In the midst of unprecedented and rapidly deployed attacks by the federal government on institutions of higher learning, we stand in solidarity with our colleagues targeted for teaching in their subject matter expertise and all members of our communities whose identities have been illegally effaced (including transgender, queer, racial, and ethnic diversity).
We unequivocally support academic freedom and insist on due process, and we support our peer institutions who have rejected the « Compact » of the federal government. We continue to challenge the federal government’s stripping of research funding across the natural sciences, engineering social sciences, and humanities. We abhor, in particular, the culturally and personally destructive attacks on public universities in Texas (and the State Bills used to degrade others) as well as the ongoing threat of attacks against immigrants and international students on and off our campuses.
We call Rice University to affirm its commitment to protecting all members of our community from harassment and discrimination, and to transparently support members of our community put most at risk.
